DAL BIRYANI
Ingredients
Basmati rice 1 cup
Moong dal ½ cup
Jeera seeds 1 tsp
Green chilli 1
Carrots 2 cut in round pieces
Beans 50 gms cut in 1” pieces
Potatoes 2 cut in large cubes
Peas 100 gms
Salt to taste
Onions chopped finely
Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
Turmeric 1 tsp
Ghee 3 tsp
Method
Soak moong dal and basmati rice for half an hour. Heat 2 tsp ghee in a large kadai and add jeera seeds. When jeera splutters add onion and fry till golden brown, then add ginger garlic paste and fry till the aroma is released. Add all the vegetables and green chili and fry for 2 mins. Drain rice and dal and add to the kadai. Add turmeric and fry for 2 mins or till rice starts crackling. Either put the mixture into a pressure cooker or a rice cooker along with salt. Add 5 cups of water and cook till rice is well cooked. If you want a porridgy consistency, you could add more water. Before serving, add one more tsp of ghee. Serve hot with papad or chips, curd or kadi and green chili pickle.
